Collection Management Policy
The Collection Management Policy has had its annual update, and can be read at G:\Business Management BM\Quality 19\Policy 47\LB-19 Library Collection Management Policy\Library Collection Management Policy.doc
There are a number of significant changes this year:
- For Set Texts and Recommended Resources, an electronic copy of each resource will be purchased, if available, in addition to the print copies.
- One copy of an Additional Resource will be purchased, and if an item is available electronically, that will be the format we purchase.
- For video formats, we will purchase DVD only.
- We will no long seek annual reports of companies. We will link to electronic copies of educational institution documents, and will only collect print copies of items that are not online.
- EBL's catalogue of ebooks is available to staff and students for user-initiated short term loans (STLs); the library will pay for unmediated loans and for approved mediated STLs. Autopurchases of EBL ebooks will occur after the third loan request.
If you have any questions, please contact Geoff.

Thank you for explaining the changes, Geoff.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify: for Recommended Resources do we always purchase a print copy/copies AND and electronic copy, if available? Does the availability of the electronic copy reduce the amount of print copies we need to purchase?
Sirkku
We will purchase the electronic copy in addition to the print copies. As patrons become more accustomed to using ebooks, I'd expect that we would be able to cut down on the number of print copies that we order.
